Geotab: Empowering Partners and Providing Valuable Data Insights
Geotab is an innovative telematics company that’s advancing security by using technology and data insights to provide meaningful information to customers. Its fleet management products and services combine IoT (Internet of Things), software, and data analytics capabilities for many use cases and industries. Geotab’s platform, offering hundreds of third-party solution options, allows both small and large businesses to automate their operations by integrating vehicle data with their other data assets. As an IoT hub, the in-vehicle device provides additional functionality through IOX Add-Ons.
Processing billions of data points a day, Geotab leverages data analytics and machine learning to help customers improve productivity, optimize fleets through the reduction of fuel consumption, enhance driver safety, and achieve strong compliance to regulatory changes.
The Need
The enormous volume of information that Geotab handles, along with a need for highly scalable and flexible tools to manage, store, and analyze that data, led Geotab to invest in Google Cloud technology. The decision to use a cloud platform would also enable Geotab to take advantage of a new market opportunity.
Geotab decided to focus entirely on Google Cloud products to help create and operate a new line of business: the Geotab Intelligent Transportation Systems (Geotab ITS). Geotab ITS is a transportation analytics platform capable of providing governments with actionable, real-world insights that can be used to improve their transportation networks.
When Geotab and Enable began working together, Geotab knew that their Data Partners and Resellers were an extension of Geotab and the gateway to their users. Geotab wanted to scale its support to Resellers/Partners through online training, enabling them to help their clients build stronger businesses.
Geotab required an online solution that was quick to complete, and included an assessment. The online training needed to allow users to explore the Geotab data infrastructure, best practices and support mechanisms, and the tools that can be used to shape data insights.
They felt confident in their audience's ability to manage a self-directed format of elearning and wanted a solution that would provide flexibility for their busy schedules. Touch points with Geotab experts were welcome to explore further opportunities once the course was completed.
The Challenge
‘How do we teach our partners to sell an untapped opportunity? How do we get them to understand the power of our solutions and the endless possibilities that exist for their customers?’ These were some of the challenges experienced, with the platform being extremely new and first to market.
Typically, Resellers are a major part of the Geotab Telematics ecosystem. This course provides learning to new Resellers/Partners who need to understand the platform in order to provide well-informed, innovative consulting solutions to government and private sector organizations.
The Resellers/Partners, would be armed with knowledge and access to Geotab's proprietary tech and data insights in order to chart cutting edge solutions for their clients.
The Solution
Working with Geotab’s technical subject matter experts (SMEs) and learning team, Enable’s Learning Experience Designers (LXDs) used an Instructional Systems Design (ISD) Approach to assess the needs of Geotab, which would inform the development of a certification program that equips Resellers/Partners with the knowledge they need to effectively employ Geotab's proprietary platform and rich data insights for successful commercialization.
After conducting a needs analysis to gather information from Geotab SMEs, and creating a Needs Assessment Report with key performance outcomes identified, Enable’s LXDs then used this information to guide the Design Phase and Recommendations for the programme.
The team identified topics for the course, audience personas, and made recommendations for evaluation. They then developed a bespoke, multi-media online course that was a first of its kind. The course has also been leveraged internally for Geotab's staff with great success!
The Outcome
The Data Partner Enablement Certification course was created in Articulate Storyline and deployed on Geotab’s own Learning Management System (LMS).
The learning includes explanations of concepts and principles, examples and scenarios to help the learners apply the concepts to specific situations, best practices, case studies, and demos of the platform and its features. Enable was able to feature key Geotab experts through engaging videos that simplified technical concepts, to make learning more engaging.
The Impact
The Data Partner Enablement Certification course was built with expansion in mind, ensuring that their future needs will always be addressed. The course will be used continuously to onboard new Resellers/Partners in the future, build a stronger ecosystem for Geotab and by extension, their customers.
Geotab has always been an early adopter and innovator so embarking on this unique learning experience came as no surprise. They are leading the way in creating strong partnerships, educating their customers and creating opportunities for industries that have not been thought of by their competitors.
This certification course supports their partners by providing the tools and expertise (directly from Geotab) that will enable them to create "first of its kind" commercialization opportunities.
They are examining trends and making predictions about how data insights will shape the world and improve our lives.
